Hello!
After the Oscars, quite a crazy week ensued as we tried to show our East Coast friends a good time. This started Tuesday night, with a trip to the Hollywood IN-N-OUT!
After that delicious dinner (and the afterparty at Yogurtland), I left my jet-lagged friends and
headed to the Sagebrush Cantina in Calabasas for the Childrens Hospital Wrap Party! The Sagebrush has a great tented plaza for events, and the open bar was lovely. It was fun to see everyone from the show outside of the stressful hours and responsibilities associated with production.
Overall, it was a great evening, which was followed by a great day out on the town with Dante, Anthony, Liz, and Liz.
Our morning started out with a simple requirement: fruit. When I went to pick up the Boston crew from their hotel, they requested that we find a place that could satisfy their scurvy-like urges. What better place than the Farmers' Market? We picked out the strangest fruits we could find--like yellow plums and blood oranges.
While killing time between cupcakes and the dinner we had planned at Henry's Hat, we drove over to the corner of Hollywood and Highland to check out the Walk of Fame.
I even showed them the geocache we made famous a few blog post ago! This inspired us to use our remaining hour before dinner to seek out a geocache of our own near the restaurant...with some interesting results. Anthony used his smartphone power to find a cache nearby called "Madonna's Jog Path," supposedly right next to Madonna's former house. We tried to drive to the coordinates, which led us through some twisty turns down by the reservoir, with mixed results. No, we didn't have time to find the cache, but we *did* see a great view of the Hollywood sign!
Leaving Madonna's house behind (for now), we enjoyed a great dinner and some Uno and Scattegories at Henry's Hat before going to the Upright Citizen's Brigade theater in LA for the weekly Wednesday night "Facebook" show.
The show is performed by five great comedians, including Paul Scheer (the moderator from the LOST Paleyfest panel) and Rob Huebel (of Childrens Hospital fame). One of the regulars was out, so Rob Riggle (from Funny or Die's "Designated Driver" series) stepped in as a special guest.
The show works by choosing an audience member to interview about their facebook page, and using the gathered information as a basis for long-form improv. It's hilarious, especially when you know the person being interviewed. Luckily for us, they chose Lauren.
The next day, it was Lauren's turn to chauffeur around our Boston friends. She took them to the ABC Prospect lot, where we work on "General Hospital," to meet me for lunch at the commissary. Unfortunately, it's sweeps' week at GH, so we couldn't give them a full tour.
Later that evening, after we got out of class, we picked the gang up again in order to try our luck at the Madonna geocache once more before they went back east, and Lauren, Dante, and I went north to San Francisco. Lauren and Erin decided it was a race to get to the cache's parking point.
When both cars were finally parked on the street in front of where the path seemed to start, we began our journey toward the cache.
We quickly decided that this part of the path could lead to nothing good, so we back-pedaled back to the cars. Not sure how to proceed, we were informed by Erin, Laur, and Dante that when they'd gotten lost on windy streets on the other side of the hill, they'd only been about 500 feet from the cache itself. It was only when finding the parking lot that they'd distanced themselves so far. We agreed to jump back in the cars and find a new jumping off point into the trail, one closer to our final destination, perhaps with more legal parking.
Sure enough, we found the opposite end of the trail, this one more paved and less creepy. Liz and Liz bravely leading the way, we began our journey...again.
We searched and searched, but couldn't find the cache. It hadn't been found for months, and there had been vague warnings of water issues...so we had to give up. The hints about Laurel Sumac weren't too helpful, given that both sides of the trail were overgrown with the plant.
All in all, a great week of laughs and adventure. Stay tuned for more Hollywood adventures with Erin, Anthony, Liz, and Liz...and for a crazy trip north with me, Lauren, Dante, and Nick!
